Whenever you hear that someone is working from home you always hear the same thing; ‘You are so lucky, you get to stay home all day while the rest of us are at work, you don’t have a boss breathing down your neck all day, and you don’t have to worry about getting written up.” You may have worked for many years at a day job, behind a desk, with that horrible boss yelling at you constantly and threatening to write you up.

Now since you are enjoying all the benefits of staying home and running your own home business you have to take the good with the bad. You are in charge of it all. Along with all those benefits come responsibility, the responsibility of your job and if you have children the responsibility of keeping them fed and clean as well as your house.

One of the biggest challenges ahead of you is motivation or lack of it, since you are at home it is so easy just to curl up with a good book or watch that daytime T.V. show you haven’t seen in a long time.  Here are some key points to help you stay motivated and get that work done that is starting to pile up. Take time to ponder why you actually started to work from home.

Was it because you could not find a job elsewhere? Was it because you liked the appeal of being your own boss? Maybe you have small children and you cannot afford a day care. Think about these same reasons all over again and you will see that you are once again motivated.

Set goals

Do not set big goals for yourself. Set small goals this will make it easier for you to get your work done. Maybe you need to work an hour more each day. Maybe you need to make extra money. Think about what that little bit of extra money can go for.

Make a personal vision board

This can be a board with everything you want in life on it. This can be your dream car, places you want to go, things you want to do. It does not matter. Anytime you need a little extra motivation just look at your board and you will find yourself a little more driven.

If you just are not feeling like doing it… don’t

Do not force yourself to do something that at the moment you just are not that into. Because if you are frustrated and tired you will just make yourself even more frustrated and tired. Take a break. Lay down for a little while get something to eat. Maybe sometimes you are working too hard and you need a rest take a nap.  Just recharge. Maybe later you will feel better and be able to work better.

Sometimes working and resting seem contradictory, but they go hand in hand when you rest you are more ready to work. There is nothing wrong with taking a break. Even employees at Wal-mart get a break. You deserve one also you work hard.
